I just got back from spending the day at the animal hospital with Comet. He was there four days ago with another negative blasto test (regular since stopping meds last February). This morning he would not get up. His rear end was entirely lame, and he had an extremely difficult time getting up ...so he didn't. I called my husband to come home from work. He looked and we took him in to the hospital immediately. No fever, no other symptoms, no lumps. It seems like it is not one leg but the spine. The vet concurred and did spinal xrays which showed nothing abnormal which rules out tumor. She did say it could be blasto but that is unlikely due to his recent antigen test which was .28 -- the lowest ever. Up until this happened, he has been full of energy and enthusiasm. No apparent pain except when she massaged along either side of his spine. The "pain" appears higher on the spine than she would normally associate with disc problems. He is back home, on rimadyl, and close supervision for a couple days. Any sign of it getting worse, and he will be back in a flash and I will probably push to put him back on the Itra even though the test a few days ago was negative. This is scary. He has not been exposed to any exercise that is unusual for him, but that is still a lot of exercise and play.
Once he got up, he was able to move around seemingly ok although slow ...and some shaking of his hind legs. It appears to be difficult for him to GET up, and he sort of crashes DOWN when he wants to lie down.
Any thoughts? At this point I dont really think blasto except that I am so afraid of that that it never truly leaves my mind.
