Hi Kristen,

Thanks for bumping up.  Winter had sores on her shoulders and hip bones.  Very similar to the photos in this email string.  That is how she was diagnosed, probably too late after many months of trying antibiotics for cough, fever. listlessness.  ONE THING TO NOTE FOR FUTURE BLASTO CASES - DO NOT TOUCH THE SORES.  WEAR GLOVES.  Our vet was very adamant about this - she felt that if we had a small cut, a hangnail, anything open, we humans could contact Blasto.  Better to be safe than sorry.

I put some of these up under a different heading, but thought I would add them here for new members who were searching.

Also, as an aside, we wash hands pretty regularly just to be on the safe side, but we've never worn gloves.  From our understanding you have to lick the stuff to catch it yourself.  Probably not a bad idea, but we haven't done it.  We felt strong hand washing was good enough.

The day we noticed her eyes were looking bad (about 4 days after she stopped eating, and two days after she started coughing).

The first 'blue-ing' of the eye:

The day the blasto just filled her eye:

Her chest radiograph the day her eye swelled and had to be removed.  Typical snowstorm, but not as bad as some I've seen.  Same day we received positive results from miravista test.

Her sutures after surgery:

Her first night on fluconazole:

Izzy's swelling in her left leg a day or so after it started:

Another view of the swelling:

Her first (and only, knock on wood) skin lesion, higher on her left leg:

Ice pack time:

That's all I've got.  It's hard to get good indoor photos of her because she's so dark.  Will keep trying to add as we have other 'ill' photos.

And since now I feel sad looking at sad photos of Izzy, here's a few good ones:
