I'm so sorry to hear about your husband's diagnosis.  My dog picked up blasto when we lived in Madisonville, KY.  My vet said they see several cases during the year.  It seems like Western, KY might be a hotspot, especially since it's considered to be in the Ohio river valley.

I don't know a whole lot about human cases but I would definitely keep searching for answers, especially if he is coughing up blood.  This is a very serious disease - I didn't catch it in my dog in time.  She showed symptoms for just a few weeks before she passed on and I had her treated as soon as we figured it might be blasto.  I know the animals that have survived on here have taken meds for many, many months - some even well into a year.

Good luck with everything!

I live in Canada  and I did have blastomycosis. I was hospitalized twice, once for 2 months and then again for one month. I took the medication for 17 months all together.  The doctor has to do a biopsy to determine if the blasto is gone.  My story is here as well. I do hope all goes well for him and hoping that he doesn't still have it. Blasto can be deadly please please follow through with all medication and doctors and testing. The doctors also told me because they don't know too much about blasto they don't know if and when it can reappear. I have been blato free for 9 years now.

 >:(well we went to the doc.. she seems to think he had a ulcer or bronchitis.. but with my prompting orderd a chest CT and now has told us he has several areas of his lungs that concern her.. His spleen is enlarged and also his lymph nodes.. I have looked up blasto and have not found much info.. other than it can affect other organs.. I suspect this is a recurrance of the blasto and will be very persistent on him finishing his meds and get back to the docs for the checkups..
