Almost two months, and still a ride for Curby
« on: November 19, 2010, 01:03:44 PM »

Here we are on Day 53 of itra for Curby.  Quick summary - COughing, lethargy, depression (his, not mine), fever, no eating, and lameness in one leg in mid SEpt.  Initially diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia.  Perked up when itra and prednisone started.  On tramadol the whole time.  No improvement in lungs as of 3 weeks ago (month on itra), so stopped prednisone.  Lameness on another leg three weeks ago.  One skin lesion two weeks ago.  Tore up any stuffie he could find one week ago (after ignoring for the previous two months).  Breathing definitely better.  Yeay!
Last two days pretty lethargic, has lumps around his body, like areas of fluid under the skin, about palm size.  Seem painful.  One leg bothering him alot again.  BOOO.
But, I KNOW he's getting better.  I believe we're one of the lucky ones.  It's just a roller coaster.  And I'm so sorry for all who have lost their dogs to this, and thank the supporters on this board!!

Definitely in it for the long haul -- those lumps is the fungus getting mad, the lesion is when it's giving up and running away -- it's a horrible thing, but a GREAT thing too.

HANG IN THERE, can't wait to hear that Curby is blasto free!

Hey Curby. I hope your day is going well. I'm not feeling too hot today, but it's been better most of the time this week.... Thinking of you !

Hoping Curby's tail comes up and he gets a sparkle in his eyes.  You can do it!

Curby is sleeping alot so not feeling great.  It's so up and down.  Still more down than up.  It's exactly two months ago we started itra.  But we find out tomorrrow how his lungs and bloodwork look.  His liver enzymes were a little up a month ago, presumably from the itra, but nothings looking yellow (eyes, gums, skin) and he's not bloated, so I'm hopeful there.  Lameness gets worse then better then worse then...etc, so I'm guessing it's in the bones.
But others' stories give me hope, and I'm so sorry to hear of the losses, blasto or otherwise - Sadie, Luke, 99, Winter...and Surf, to whom we owe this awesome chat board.
More shall be revealed!

Good luck with the vet check, and here's hoping that Curby will start to feel more like himself again. ben, too, sleeps a lot. I guess I can see the change because it's visible with that rib....
